A successful marketing career roadmap requires knowing what you’ve done.
That’s one piece of advice shared by Bria Bell, vice president, industry engagement marketing — speaker bureau lead, JPMorgan Chase, in a recent CMI Live.
Her counsel seems simple until you try to execute it. What activities did you do last month? A year ago? How did that work perform? It’s hard to recall by memory alone.
So, Bria says, write it down as you do it.
She uses a spreadsheet to track her projects and deliverables by quarter. She records feedback, kudos, and how she helped her team and others. Finally, she writes down how all that applies to the company’s business objectives.
At the end of the year, Bria can accurately define her impact on the organization. “What best serves people who are leveling up [in their careers] is not just the effort but the impact,” she says.
That’s just one great suggestion from the CMI Live conversation. Watch the video (above) to benefit from all of her tips, including an unexpected idea about proactive visibility.
